Abstract

The objective of present study was to analyse phytochemical constituents and antioxidant properties of aqua methanolic extracts obtained from the leaves of Mangifera indica, Azadirachta indica, Ocimum sanctum and Psidium guajava. In this investigation, phytochemical analysis for the important chemical constituents and antioxidant activity of extract was carried out. The phytochemicals such as phenols, flavonoids, tannin and non- tannin were determined quantitatively. The antioxidant property of the extracts was evaluated using in vitro assays i.e., 2, 2^'-Azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS. +) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The total phenolic, total flavonoids and tannin contents were maximum in extract of leaves of Mangifera indica. The IC₅₀ values was determined and revealed that Psidium guajava extract was better scavengers of ABTS and DPPH radicals.
